The Beverage Container Refund Scheme
Return your empty drink containers, reclaim your deposit, and help close the loop on single-use packaging across Malta & Gozo.
The scheme covers single-use beverage containers between 0.1 and 3 litres, made of:
How the deposit refund system works
A small refundable deposit turns every empty container into something worth returning — and worth recycling.
Deposit added
A €0.10 deposit is added to the price of every in-scope beverage at the producer or importer stage.
You buy & drink
The deposit travels through distributors and retailers and is paid by you at the point of sale.
Return the empty
Bring the empty container to a retailer or a Reverse Vending Machine across Malta & Gozo.
Reclaim €0.10
Your full deposit is refunded immediately — and the container is sent to be recycled into new material.
